RADIATION CAN KEEP FLIES YOUNG, SAY KOMI SCIENTISTS
Radiation is capable of stopping the ageing, according to scientists from the Komi Institute of Biology. The conclusion is based on a series of tests conducted on fruit flies.
Half the genes of the species are similar to human genes.
The fruit flies were exposed to minor doses of iodizing radiation. The tests results show that radiation makes the life expectancy of the majority of genotypes longer. It can also give a boost to the neuromuscular activities. The tests were conducted on five generations of the fruit flies.
According to researchers, only the first and the second generations of the species showed the positive ?rejuvenation? effects. On the contrary, the fifth generation flies showed a decrease in their life expectancy. That?s why the scientists aren?t jumping to conclusions regarding any truly beneficial effects of radiation, as reported by Kominform News Agency.
