Israel is planning to build a Mars exploration rover of its own within the next two years. Israel?s national space agency will be responsible for the project. Professor Zvi Shiller, a robotic technologies specialist in charger of the project, says that an Israeli rover will be ?smarter? than those built by NASA.
Israeli rover will be capable of conducting operations on the Red Planet independently without any assistance from the earthlings. The future machine will be capable of taking photographs of Mars and choose the best way to move about its surface without any advice from the ground control.
Israeli sources say that the project will be partly financed by Americans who showed an active interest in its success. NASA already allocated $30,000 as an expenditure on the development of a computer program for the ?brain? of the future robotic explorer. Hopefully, a prototype of the rover will be built in the near future. The rover is estimated to be fully ready to commence its long mission to Mars in 24 months.
