NEW TRANSPORT FOR THE FAR NORTH

New means of transporting for the Far North has been invented by a Krasnoyarsk scientist. The design of a ?train? is reportedly unique since the machine is capable of moving on the ground using its wheels while pontoons are used for sailing on the water and snowplanes are engaged for sliding on the ice. The unusual train is reported to be suitable for carrying bulky cargoes along the river beds in the North both in summer and winter.

The machine was invented by Alexander Danilov, assistant professor at the department of construction and road machines of the Krasnoyarsk Technological University. According to him, the new means of transporting is capable of carrying up to 120 tons of cargo. A new prototype is currently under development. It?s designed to take 560 tons of cargo and will be manned by one operator. One machine costs an estimated 5 million roubles.

?The equipment will enable companies to use the river ports during the wintertime,? said Danilov. He also said that a number of large companies of the national timber industry showed interest in the invention. As many as 1,000 machines may be required to fill the market capacity of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, as reported by ITAR-TASS News Agency.
